Boooo, max capacity is only 32Gb.
Actually, I could probably whittle down the amount of music I actually listen to to that size. But...I don't wanna!
Otherwise, the Zune HD looks very chic, and I'll be excited when I can put my fingerprints all over one at Best Buy whenever it comes out. |
| Steam |

So I gave in to Steam a while ago. I really dislike phone-home DRM schemes and bloat-ware, which Steam is both. Steam itself isn't really bloated, but it insists on running in the backgound, which I dislike.
But...you can't argue with cheap. Steam seems to offer discounts for a lot of games without even indicating that they're on sale. For example, Plants vs. Zombies is $10 on Steam, but $20 directly from PopCap. They also seem to offer ridiculous sales as well. I suspsect its because the game developers can set the price at will (fire-sale), unlike through retail channels where stores are more likely to keep things priced similar to other products on the same tier.
So I've finally come to accept Steam, but that doesn't mean I like it. It'll be my preferred choice if I can't avoid the DRM, but I'll always favor buying the retail version if it means lesser-DRM (why can't we just stick with disc-in-drive and product keys?).
I have the retail versions of Mass Effect and Burount Paradise, and their activation process is kinda annoying. Mass Effect required me to create some kinda EA account to activate and Burnout Paradise required me to install an automatic update downloader (which runs in the background everytime I launch the game, and doesn't auto-close when I stop playing.)

So basically, Indian IT CEO calls americans stupid and lazy.
Actually, his statement is quite contrary to how high-schools in the US were explained to me. I've heard from more than one person that high-schools are designed to prepare teens for life in a factory: learn to follow instructions. Which isn't that different from process-oriented methodologies. |

We've come across things people want us to do, that we do well (or at least better than the competition) that we really don't want to do. This is perhaps the most fatal trap for any business I've worked in. These are the sirens calling you to shipwreck. You'll hemorrhage your best people, you'll stop loving what you do, and you'll lose the passion that built your business in the first place. Start saying 'No.'
I really feel like I'm underperforming at work. I thought I could muscle through this role, but I'm afraid I might be wrong. I feel like I'm going down a path that'll end in me panicing to finish everything at the last minute. I'm trying to correct this issue, but it's taking an enormous amount of willpower.
Deep down I just want to do what I want to do, for better or worse. |
| Underachiever |

It's one thing to feel like an underachiever when comparing yourself to someone like Nikola Tesla, Thomas Edison, or Albert Einstein. But this morning, I find myself seriously jealous of this guy: http://shaneliesegang.com. He gets to work at Bethesda Softworks (makers of my beloved Fallout 3,) and he's only a year older than me. His resume puts my entire life to shame.
It's silly really, to compare myself to someone else. To accomplish the kind of schooling he did, I'd probably have to become a complete hermit. Which, sorry, no, I rather like being social. (My small social life is more than enough for me.) But I still can't help but wonder where my drive went. I mean, I really miss the old days where I'd stay up all night to clobber together some code for the sake of doing it. I don't have any excuses anymore, I have two coding project ideas I can easily start work on. And I have the time to work on them. I just don't.
I feel like I just do the bare minimum to get by. I want to break out of this rut, but I don't know where to start. I'm not even 100% sure what all the things are that I don't like about my current work. I know I don't like dreading going to bed because that means work is about to start. I also know I especially don't like coming home feeling drained, even though I didn't really accomplish much during the day (heck, usually my most productive days send me home feeling energized.) |

Well, I doubt anyone noticed since the site has been spotty for so long, but the site was down for almost an entire month. The reason is because I RMA'd my video card. Quite an ordeal, really. Two weeks after FexEd told me they delivered it, I still hadn't gotten word from the support company. So I sent and e-mail and all of a sudden they're like, yeah, we'll ship it tomorrow. Sure enough, the next day they send me the tracking number. I think somebody forgot all about it! Then FedEx failed to deliver on time! How frustrating!
Ohh well, it's over now. The card works. I haven't played Fallout 3 long enough to see if any glitches come up. Time will tell.
Again, I am dissatisfied with my own performance at work. Not only that but I'm actually feeling pretty sour about my work situation in general. I'm trying to stay positive, but it's hard. Hopefully I'll get into a groove soon and finish out this project without too much hassle.
Wah wah wah. Suck it up, be a man, quit being so lazy. |

So I spent the weekend (and Mon/Tues) tiling the bathroom. I spent Sunday on my hands and knees scraping up the remaining vinyl and trying to scrub out the adhesive using Krud Kutter. Monday, I spent 12 hours on my hands and knees laying tile, taking my time, trying to get it right. The thin-set tub says to give it 24-36 hours to dry. No prob.
So today, on the 24 hour mark, I go in and test the waters. It looked fine from the start, but lo and behold, tiles started shifting. So now all the spacers are back in the tile, but we have to start using the bathroom anyway. I mean, we only have one bathroom, it was hard enough to make due so far!
I really hope the shifted tiles will be okay. I really can't stand the thought of tiles popping up, and having to reset them. I also really hope the thin-set drys soon. I think its just taking longer because of the rain.
On another note. I finally finished Fallout 3 today. I have 78 hours logged on my last save game. Nutso! I think that's the only game I ever put so much time into. Too bad the video card is going in the mail tomorrow for RMA. I got a lot of glitches during Fallout, and I don't think it was just the game. |

| After being too lazy to get a hold of Mozy live support, it seems like the entire vdi (VirtualBox drive image) file got uploaded. Either my internet connection was just THAT crappy, or they finally fixed something on the server. Horray, my website is backed up, and it seems like the incremental patched on the vdi are going up successfully too. Yay for being lazy! |
| Canon |
Apr 23, 2009 02:09 am |
I gotta give some kudos to Canon. Even though our camera was out of warranty (by a month,) they accepted it under warranty and fixed it. It was the most ridiculous thing too, the lens just wouldn't open anymore, and the OS gave an error message.
Hopefully there won't be any more issues because so far I've been pleased with Canon. My old camera (also a Canon) is still alive and kicking, even though I think the image sensor is dying a slow death (all recent pictures have a faint grid on them). And I've had that thing since I graduated high-school!
Yeah, sorry the first thing I post in a long time is something lame like expressing my brand loyalty. Here's some other quick notes about what's been going on with me lately:
- I've been horribly addicted to Fallout 3. The HTPC plays it well enough, but I keep getting glitches. I'm trying to decide if I should RMA the video card. I've seen images on forums showing similar glitches and people say it's usually due to overheating. )-: But if I go the RMA route, I'll probably be without the HTPC for a while.
- Work has been CRAZY lately. But in a satisfying way. We're in our test phase, and I'm Mr. Fix-it.
- Partly due to spring break, and partly due to craziness at work, I'm horribly behind in my one class. Yesterday was our last exam, and our big paper was due. I didn't study and I'm procrastinating on writing the paper right now.
- My dad was laid-off recently. If I didn't mention it before, my uncle got laid-off months ago. Pretty depressing to have family in that situation.
- Mozy tech support sucks. I still can't get my webserver backed-up. The tech support guy just kept suggesting I install the latest version, and other basic crap. He finally gave up and suggested I do the live-chat support and CLOSED MY TICKET. I haven't been able to be HOME when live-chat support is available, and how DARE you close a support ticket when the ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED.
That's all for now. I need to stop procrastinating so I can hurry up and resume playing Fallout 3. |
